UFC News 2015: Lawler-Condit Bout Scheduled for UFC 195
A thumb injury to UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler took his title defense against Carlos Condit off the main event of UFC 193, the massive event scheduled for Nov. 14 at the 90,000-seater Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. But fans looking forward to that matchup won't have to wait for too long as the UFC announced Thursday night on Fox Sports Live that the two welterweight warriors would be facing of instead at UFC 195 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas.
UFC 195 was previously set to feature undefeated women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm on the main event. That women's matchup has since been moved to UFC 193.
Lawler is coming off an absolute five-round war against No. 1 welterweight contender Rory MacDonald, which took Fight of the Night honors. He is riding a four-fight win streak, and has won seven of his last eight fights.
Condit, for his part, has not been so hot, winning just two of his last five fights. But Condit has always been a warrior, and should give fans in Las Vegas their money's worth against the equally game Lawler.
He returned from a severe knee injury that he suffered against Tyron Woodley in March 2014. Condit returned to action last May, winning a TKO (doctor's stoppage) against Thiago Alves, which effectively put him back on the radar of title contention.
Meanwhile, the UFC also added two fights to the UFC 194 fight card slated for Dec. 12.
Uriah Faber returns to the bantamweight division to face Frankie Saenz, while Max Holloway and Jeremy Stephens battle for the right to move into title contention.
Faber is coming off a loss against Frankie Edgar, and was opposite Conor McGregor as coach in the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter.
Holloway, for his part, has wanted to get a shot at Edgar, but is instead facing Stephens.
