UFC 2015 News: Anthony Johnson Gym Incident Investigation Commences
UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony "Rumble" Johnson was supposed to be the titleholder following former champion Jon Jones' title being stripped and eventual suspension from the UFC. Instead, Daniel Cormier dominated Johnson in their title fight, and now, he finds himself in the middle of an investigation regarding a gym incident he ranted about on Facebook.
As reported by MMA Weekly, the UFC has hired an independent law firm to investigate the matter. An unnamed female doing yoga stretches in the gym's weight lifting area supposedly sparked the altercation in question.
"To the ugly girl in the gym built like a bag of dog food, this for you," Johnson's Facebook rant started.
"If you get in my way or any other athlete's way again, I'll throw your yoga mat across the gym AGAIN. Who in their right mind stretches where ppl are supposed lift?"
In the rant, Johnson said the woman ran her mouth during the confrontation, then followed it up with a slew of insults directed at the woman.
"You need more than stretching to help that beat up body. One more thing, stop wearing sports bras when your tummy look like a old country red clay dirt road."
As noted by MMA Weekly, Johnson had been accused of domestic violence in the past. The top-ranked light heavyweight contender was suspended by the UFC back in September 2014 after news emerged that Johnson was suspected of domestic violence against the mother of his two children.
"UFC is aware of the situation involving Anthony Johnson," the UFC release said Wednesday. "We take these matter seriously and have commenced a formal investigation by a third-party law firm. We will acct accordingly once we gather more information."
Johnson has since apologized on his Facebook page.
"I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong and yesterday, I was absolutely wrong," he wrote. "I shouldn't have gotten upset from the start but I did, I mean, I'm human. I said some pretty nasty things about a female from my gym while full of emotions (not a good idea) so I do wanna apologize to her for being rude as I was and not taking a break to relax after the argument."
