UFC Fight Night 69 New Fight News: Joanna Jedrzejczyk Replaces Injured Gustafsson, Will Face Jessica Penne

UFC women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was booked to fight in a headlining role for UFC Berlin on June 20. She will be making her first title defense replacing the injured Alexander Gustafsson on the card.

Before the past weekend, the UFC announced that Gustafsson suffered an injury that forced him out of the June event where he was scheduled to take on Glover Teixeira for a five-round fight. The UFC did not, however, disclose details of the injury, or when the Swede would be able to return to action.

Jedrzejczyk will put her title on the line, instead, against Jessica Penne in what will be the first time a UFC title fight will be headlining a European fight card, as noted by MMA Weekly.

Penne is a former Invicta FC atomweight (105-pound division) who made her way to the organization by being part of a season of "The Ultimate Fighter." She takes on the newly crowned Polish champion fresh off a dominating win over inaugural champion Carla Esparza at UFC 185. Jedrzejczyk stopped Esparza in the latter part of the second round via TKO.

As stated by the MMA Weekly report, Penne was originally scheduled to fight Juliana Lima at UFC Fight Night 67 this May 30. With the news of Gustafsson's injury, she was pulled from that card and is now pitted against the champion. Penne's first and only appearance in the UFC was when she got Fight of the Night honors against Randa Markos at the TUF 20 Finale.

The UFC has yet to announce their plans for Teixeira. MMAMania opines that he could be moved for the upcoming fight card in Brazil. Teixeira is coming off an injury that forced him out of a fight with Rashad Evans for UFC Fight Night 61 back in February.

UFC Fight Night 69 is booked at the O2 World in Berlin for June 20.
