UFC 2015 News: Talks of Rousey vs. ‘Cyborg’ Resurface After UFC 190
Undefeated UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey may have just cleaned up the entire division, with the fighter next in line for a shot at her being someone she has already submitted twice. But everybody knows there remains one name that will stir enough intrigue and fan interest: here name is Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino.
"I think that fight does 2.5 million buys," UFC president Dan White said after Rousey dispatched of undefeated Bethe Correia in just 34 seconds. "I think that fight is massive," White added, while claiming that UFC 190 was trending higher than the record-breaking UFC 189 that saw Conor McGregor win the interim bantamweight belt by knocking out Chad Mendes.
But while even Rousey knows the fight against "Cyborg" is the one everyone wants to see, she's quick to point out one tangible roadblock.
"I fight in the UFC 135-division," Rousey said at UFC 190's post-fight press conference. "She can fight 145 pumped full of steroids, and she can make weight just like everybody else without "em."
As noted by David Doyle of Yahoo Sports, Justino was the Strikeforce women's featherweight champion when Rousey debuted in 2011. The problem is, she tested positive for steroids following her December 2011 TKO win over Hiroko Yamanaka, which resulted in a one-year suspension.
She has since come back to MMA, competing at 145 pounds. Justino has also passed every drug test along the way.
"The day she makes weight [135] and does what she's supposed to do, that fight's on," White said. She wants that fight, everybody, you don't think I want that fight to happen?"
As of now, though, Miesha Tate is the women's bantamweight No. 1 contender. There have been reports that the UFC is looking at a December fight card that could feature a Jose Aldo-McGregor fight along with a Rousey-Tate matchup.
