UFC 2015 News: Hall of Fame Inductee Class of 2015 Announced

The UFC confirmed the first two members of their Hall of Fame class for 2015 when it announced on Wednesday's "UFC Tonight." Former commentator Jeff Blatnick will be inducted into the new contributor's wing, while the rematch between Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg will be entered into the fight wing.

As noted by a FoxSports report, the UFC hall of Fame was recently reformatted into four separate categories for inductees"”pioneers, modern era, contributors, and fights. Each year up to 2017, at least one member for each category will be inducted.

Blatnick served as a commentator from UFC 4 through UFC 32, and also helped to develop the rules and judging criteria that would eventually be adapted into the modern regulations for mixed martial arts across the globe. The Olympic gold medalist in wrestling is also credited for coining the term "mixed martial arts." Unfortunately, Blatnick passed away in 2012.

The other inductee is the UFC 52 clash that's renowned as one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history. As Foxsports points out, Hughes and Trigg developed a heated rivalry in the lead up to their rematch, which made the affair a highly anticipated fight.

Early in the fight, Trigg caught Hughes with a shot that put Hughes on the mat. Some vicious ground and pound was unleashed by Trigg, and went on to attempt a rear naked choke, which Hughes impressively got away from.

Hughes then remarkably recovered, picked up Trigg and slammed him on the ground. The then UFC Welterweight champion kept the pressure on top, and eventually finished Trigg with a rear naked choke to defend his title.

The report also said that the UFC will entering two more members of the Hall of Fame class, one from the pioneer era (fighters who debuted before November 17, 2000), and one from the modern era (fighters who debuted after the same date), which will be announced at a later date.

The UFC Hall of Fame class of 2015 will be inducted during International Fight Week in Las Vegas in the lead up to UFC 189 on July 11.
