UFC 185 Fight Recap, News: Both Pettis & dos Anjos Require Surgery Post Bout

The UFC had big plans for Anthony "Showtime" Pettis as their next crossover star, but a couple of straight left hands early in the first round of his fight with Rafael dos Anjos in UFC 185 changed all of that.

According to a UFC Tonight report, Pettis was required to stay in Dallas, where the most recent UFC pay-per-view event was held, as a precautionary measure for the broken orbital he suffered during the fight.

After the fight, the former UFC Lightweight champion admitted after the straight left from dos Anjos early in the fight, he couldn't see out of his right eye, which also required 12 stitches.

Pettis' manager Mike Roberts said that his client would have a follow-up examination when he lands in his hometown of Milwaukee, and that Pettis will be out of action for at least six weeks, as reported by MMAFighting.com.

On the other side of the cage, dos Anjos' manager Ali Abdelaziz told UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani that the newly crowned champion suffered a partially torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) a few weeks before the fight.

The Brazilian admitted that he nearly pulled out of the fight because of the injury, but ultimately decided to push through. The UFC Lightweight champion will not require surgery on his knee, but will need three months of rehabilitation to regain full strength, according to Bleacher Report.

But that wasn't all the adversity dos Anjos had to fight through as he also fought with the ride side of his nose completely shut, as a result of another injury he suffered during training camp.

Abdelaziz told Helwani that dos Anjos, while escaping surgery for his knee, would need surgery to correct the tissue in his nose. The champion's manager added that dos Anjos fought with the left side of his nose 70 percent open.

Both the timetable for his recovery and his return to the octagon is not yet known.
