Tyler Perry Explains Million Dollar Donation to TD Jakes' Church; 'When God Has Blessed You, You Have a Responsibility to Pass It On' (Video)
Tyler Perry has joined Yolanda Adams on her morning show and explained his large donation to Bishop T.D. Jakes' church - an act that has been praised and criticized by various people. However, Perry explained that God has blessed him, and that he feels he has a "responsibility" to pass it on.
In September last year following Bishop Jakes massive family entertainment festival MegaFest, Perry attended a Sunday morning service at Bishop T.D. Jakes' Potters House church and announced he would be making a $1 million donation for the church's youth center. Perry also placed his hand on Jakes' head to bless him.
In an interview to promote Perry's latest film, Madea's Christmas, the actor sat down with Gospel legend, Yolanda Adams. During the interview Adams commended Perry for his tremendous heart to give.
"What I know for sure is that when God has blessed you, you have a responsibility to pass it on," he said on the show. "I give back because also I know in giving that's when you receive."
Additionally Perry said upon donating the money he did not want to get up publicly to testify, but after hearing people in the church snicker at the request to support with large a sum donation, he was prompted to get up and testify of what God can do.
"You know people talk about, 'oh you gave a million dollars, you gave a million dollars' but let me tell you something when I had only 20 cents in my pocket and I gave that, that was just as powerful as any amount of million dollars that was ever given, because God honors it," Perry stated.
