‘True Detectives’ Season 2 Cast & Character Details: Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, Vince Vaughn

HBO announced Monday that Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Kelly Reilly are set to join the television crime drama series, 'True Detective', alongside Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

Stepping into the details provided by the network about 'True Detective' Season 2, some of the characters outlined in regards to their backgrounds.

Colin Farrell will play a compromised police officer, while Reilly will play a D-list actress and the wife of Vaughn's character, Frank Semyon.

Frank Semyon is a criminal and skilled entrepreneur who has moved into more legitimate business ventures, but found himself in danger of losing his empire after his business partner passed away.

Kitsch will play Paul Woodrugh, who is a veteran and California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer running from his past, while McAdams will play Ani Bezzerides, who works at the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, and finds herself at odds with the system and the people she worked with because of her ethics and beliefs.

An appearance on the Emmy-nominated 'True Detectives', which was created by Nic Pizzolatto, has been highly sought after since Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson appeared on its first season.

For her role, McAdams had to best the likes of other frontrunners, such as Rosario Dawson, Elisabeth Moss, Jessica Biel, Malin Ackerman, Kiera Knightley and Brit Marling.

There were reported scheduling conflicts between McAdams' projects, as she was set to start filming 'Spotlight' around the same time 'True Detective', but everything has been worked out to allow the actress to appear in both.

The second season of the "whodunit" show will move on from Louisiana and will be set in California. It will tell the story of three police officers, played by McAdams, Kitsch and Farrell, and a criminal, Vaughn. They found themselves having to deal with the consequences of the murder of a corrupt city manager, according to Rolling Stone.

Justin Lin, director from 'The Fast and the Furious' series, will take charge for the first two episodes of the show's second season.
