'True Detective' Season 3 News, Rumors: Third Season Likely To Come Back?
Despite rumors that "True Detective" will no longer return for another season, recent reports suggest that there is still a chance for fans to see "True Detective" season 3 after the previous season ended its run on HBO.
According to reports, Nic Pizzolatto is still in talks with the network for a probably renewal of the series. However, an HBO executive teased recently that season 3 is likely to happen.
The first season of "True Detective" featured Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghen and became a huge hit in 2014. However, the following season failed to match season 1 after receiving lukewarm reception from fans and critics.
At the Television Critics Association's press tour, HBO's head of programming Casey Bloys was quoted as saying, "It's not dead," referring to the series.
"We are hoping for a third season. It's a very valuable franchise for us," he said.
While the network and Pizzolatto are both optimistic that a season 3 will happen, Pizzolatto is currently busy with other projects so a new writer may be in charge of the script for the new installment. However, Pizzolatto will still be on his side to supervise.
In a recent interview with the "Rich Eisen Show," McConaughey expressed how he missed playing Rust Cohle.
"I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching 'True Detective' on Sunday nights," he said.
Fans still have to wait for an official announcement from HBO regarding the renewal of the series, which last aired in 2015.
