'True Detective' Season 3 Cast, Rumors: Matthew McConaughey Will Return In Third Season
While "True Detective" season 3 still seems to be treading water, one of its original cast members has expressed in a recent interview his willingness to join the series another time.
Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey said in his interview on "The Rich Eisen Show" that he had already talked with show creator Nic Pizzolato that he was ready to give "True Detective 3" another shot.
Asked if he would join the cast of the third installment, the actor responded, "I would. I actually talked to Nic about it. It would be the right context, the right way. That thing, when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes, I was like, if I can play this guy Rustin Cohle, I'm in."
McConaughey admitted that the reason he wants to return to the show is that he enjoyed filming its first season.
"I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching 'True Detective' on Sunday nights. I was a happy man when I made that for six months because I was on my own island. Luckily my wife put up with me. She said I was actually nice when I went home," he added.
While HBO has kept mum about the possibilities for the series, Variety previously reported that the network had already enlisted the services of Pizzolato until 2018, which may mean that "True Detective" season 3 still has two years to be written and filmed.
"True Detective" season 2 was star-studded and had good storylines, but it failed to capture the attention of its audience. Now that McConaughey has just revealed the possibility of him returning to the show, fans expect that season 3 will be as spectacular as its debut season.
