'True Detective' Season 2 Spoilers, Cast News: Vince Vaughn on Character Quality & Story

It goes without saying that fans have been eagerly anticipating the sophomore season of HBO's crime drama ''True Detective''. While the second season will be without previous season stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, one of the upcoming season's new star claims the show will still live up to the hype.

"The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material. That (first season) was Louisiana, this is a California based story, and it was king of birthed from here. A lot of it is set in Los Angeles," comedian Vince Vaughn told Playboy Magazine.

Vaughn will be playing an antagonist in the show that is set in a fictional Southern California city.

"I really like my character. Nic is so great about investigating characters and their complexities in an authentic and engaging way. I want to watch this show not because I'm in it, but as a fan of the material," Vaughn said in praise of 'True Detective' creator Nic Pizolatto.

Other cast members for season two include Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch.

Farrell will be playing a detective (Ray Velcoro) who has ties with the mob, while McAdams plays Ani Bezzerides, another detective whose means of working puts her at odds with her colleagues.

According to ComingSoon, the second season will feature three police officers and a career criminal mired in conspiracy following a murder. Vaughn will be playing the career criminal (Frank Semyon) whose transition into a legitimate venture is placed in a tailspin by the murder of his business partner.

True Detective's second season will have different directors for different episodes, with Justin Lin (Fast Five) set to direct the first two episodes. The third episode will be directed by Danish filmmaker Janus Metz Pedersen (Armadillo).

'True Detective' will be returning for its second season in the middle of this year.
