'True Detective' Season 2 Release Date, Delay News: Will HBO Postpone Premiere Date?

HBO claims that it has almost completed the cast lineup for 'True Detective' Season 2, which will be set in the West Coast. However, the show creators have yet to decide on the female lead, who will lend some balance to the crime drama series' serious levels of testosterone.

The female lead of the series will portray the character of Ani Bezzerides, a "straightforward" Californian sheriff with a dark past and issues like gambling and alcoholism.

Latest reports claim that leading actresses Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams were selected for the female lead post and are competing for the role. The show creators are actually finding it difficult to take a final call, as two great actresses vying for the. While there are rumors that Rachel McAdams may eventually get the role, show creator Nic Pizzolatto has remained silent on the issue.

In fact, filming of 'True Detective' Season 2 is reported to have hit a snag owing to the absence of the female lead. If this continues for some more time, it is believed that the premiere date of 'True Detective' Season 2 will also be postponed.

According to earlier schedule, filming of the series ought to have commenced in September so that it could meet the premiere deadline. As of now, 'True Detective' Season 2 is slated to return in the summer of 2015. However, it now seems that this will be a tall task for the show creators and producers.

Earlier, HBO confirmed that Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Taylor Kitsch would be playing the three male lead roles in 'True Detective' Season 2. While the inclusion of Farrell and Vaughn was confirmed in October, Taylor Kitsch signed a deal only recently for a lead role in the series. In fact, there are reports that Kitsch supposedly declined many promising projects and roles so that he can prepare himself for his character in 'True Detective'.

Other actors who will feature in 'True Detective' Season 2 include Abigail Spencer, Kelly Reilly, Michael Irby and Leven Rambin. While Irby will be seen as Elvis, the partner of the female lead, Spencer will be a survivor of a sexual assault. Rambin will portray a beautiful woman with a colorful past. Reilly will be seen playing a character that has been described as "the self-possessed Morgan."
