'Tron 3' Spoilers News: Director Joseph Kosinski to Tackle Third Franchise Installment
Despite Tron: Legacy's mediocre success, Disney has announced this week that it will be making a third installment film in their Tron franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joseph Kosinski will direct Tron 3. Kosinski directed Tron: Legacy and is looking to change a couple of things that could help the story. He discussed that the third film will have a darker tone to it, likening it to Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
Kosinski also directed sci-fi film Oblivion which starred Tom Cruise.
The only cast member confirmed to return to the Tron world is Garrett Hedlund. However, it's likely that stars Olivia Wilde and Jeff Bridges will reprise their roles as well.
Fashion and Style said of the film's plot, "The new film will likely pick up where the last film left off, with Sam and Quorra in the real world. The cameo by Cillian Murphy as Edward Dillinger, Jr, son of the character played by David Warner in the original has been teased by Joseph Kosinski as being a potential plot point in Tron 3."
It has been five years since Tron: Legacy was release in theaters in 2010. The film was praised for its stunning visual effects, but lacked dynamic characters and a strong plot. A lot of people are asking why Disney is bothering making a third film when the second one lacked the conviction to produce a good sequel to its 1982 film.
Vancouver is the ideal location to film, but with films like Star Trek 3, Suicide Squad and Pacific Rim 2 already slotted to using the location, it's looking like the director will have pick a different spot. The film is waiting for the green light, but Kosinski wants start shooting this year and release it in theaters in late 2016 or early 2017.
