Trip Lee's 'Rise Get Up and Live in God's Great Story' Book Discusses Christians Struggles on Marriage, Porn, and Living a Godly Life [REVIEW]
Christian emcee and pastor, Trip Lee, recently released his album Rise, and to go along with it he wrote a book with the same name. 'Rise: Get Up and Live in God's Great Story', will be released on January 27, and BREATHEcast received an advanced copy at his album listening party in New York City.
The book discusses a number of important issues that both believers and none believers can get behind. He split the book into three different parts "Getting Up," "Growing Up," and "Pointing Up." The first section focuses on self motivation and "Getting Up" to do something with life. The second part deals with learning to manage yourself and be responsible. It ventures off into marriage and college experiences by Trip. The last section ties it all together with learning to be a valuable Christian with something to contribute to the world.
Trip Lee's personal journey as a youngster and as someone developing his mind to eventually lead a church and become a musician makes for an interesting read. He opens up about some of his struggles and confesses times where he has stumbled. However, it is his humble outlook on learning lessons from mistakes that makes this book a real treat. Lacking in the text is the braggadocio of a hip-hop artist. Instead what you get is a real honest person looking to have a conversation on something he believes strongly.
Another poignant part of the book is his diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome. In one of the darkest and hardest parts of his life, he managed to fight his way through despite failing in school and sleeping upwards of 18 hours a day. Although Trip's faith was tested, he managed to keep it alive by not giving up.
With that being said, this book is not so much of an autobiography, but more of a self help book for Christians with real life examples. The general message of the book is to encourage and help people adapt to the very best they can be through God.
"The world tells us that our early years are to be irresponsibly enjoyed rather than devoted to meaningful pursuits. We're told that responsibility and commitment are burdens to be put off as long as possible. And so, most of us spend our youth in a sad state of slumber"”sleeping in on life until we're forced to get up. The problem is that life has already begun. It's happening right now. And God has called you to live it," he wrote on the back of the book.
Geared more toward the younger audience, this book still has great reflection points for an older crowd because regardless of age, gender, health, the focus is to "Don't just sit there: RISE!"

Trip Lee's new album Rise was named the No. 1 Gospel Album in the U.S., and it also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart.
"Rise has a lot of different meanings," Trip said to Vibe about the album, "It's a call-to-action to rise from the dead and actually live. We're born spiritually dead, and I'm calling for everyone to become spiritually alive. Secondly, don't wait until later to live the way you were created. God created you to honor Him, find joy, and serve others. Don't sleep on that. Lastly, rise above the low expectations people have."
