'Transformers' New Movie News: Studio Plans to Create a Cinematic Universe, Wahlberg on Board
It was previously rumored that Paramount Films hopes to adopt the superhero movie trend and to spawn a cinematic universe for their 'Transformers' franchise. This rumor has since been confirmed with a few details attached.
It hasn't been confirmed as to how they plan to do this, but they have confirmed 'Batman and Robin' screenwriter Akiva Goldsman to helm the franchise.
"Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired," Brian Goldner, President and CEO of Hasbro, says. "We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman] to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers - we think there's any number of stories to be told. It's a brand that's been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017," writes Coming Soon.
Mark Wahlberg has been signed to star in a number of sequels following his 'Age of Extinction.' Michael Bay is also expected to direct future projects.
"Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more. I can't speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we'll be on set soon," states Wahlberg.
