'Transformers' New Movie News: Bumblebee Believed to be Franchise's Next Spin-Off Series
Paramount Pictures have already voiced their wish to expand their 'Transformers' cinematic universe. From this fans can expect to see a bunch more sequels and spin-off films, reportedly to be led by writer Akiva Goldsman.
A recent statement from Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner has hinted at a very specific spin-off starring Bumblebee, a fan favorite character. In the series he's an autobot character that serves as the comic relief more often than not.
"Bumblebee debuted with a broken voice module and as a close friend to Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky. But even as the series branched off from Sam's story, Bumblebee has remained one of the franchise mainstays," writes EW.
Goldner states:
"As we go forward, we would imagine several more Transformers Movies. Not just in the current lineage but also spinoffs and focusing on certain key characters that are beloved by the world over. Many of you know Bumblebee; the yellow Camaro... formally known as a yellow VW Bug. He is a beloved character by kids all over the world. We could see stories told around Bumblebee and other characters. We are in a process of building the brand equity around the comic book business, our TV Business, our digital gaming business and adding to that our new movie business of Transformers."
Details haven't yet been announce on the project, but it is believed the studio plans on moving forward with this idea.
Star actor Mark Wahlberg has already stated his contract contains him doing a couple more movies, and it seems as if director Michael Bay will also still be on board for the next couple films.
