'Transformer 5' Release Date, Cast News: Pre Production Kicks Off, Mark Wahlberg And Director Michael Bay To Return

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" became a hit when it kicked off in cinemas in 2014. It gathered an estimated gross of $ 1.1 billion despite the fact that none of the lead characters in the previous films- Shia LeBouf, Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel -  were present in the acclaimed motion picture. Meanwhile, the fifth movie is about to hit the big screens and here's what we know so far.

As for the main characters, "Age of Extinction" protagonist Mark Wahlberg is confirmed to return to the action sci-fi film, as per Screen Rant report. More than him, the voice of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, is also set to come back.

On the other hand, director Michael Bay will also sit down once again in the director's chair. According to the website, this will be the third time that Bay and Wahlberg will be working together after collaborating with the films "Pain And Gain" in 2013, aside from the "Age of Extinction."

As for the production team, writer Ehren Kruger is currently making the plot for the much-awaited flick. He said the writer's pool are now "certainly (are) laying the building blocks for some other stories we have in the back of our heads," as quoted from his interview with
