'Transformer 5' Movie Release Date Rumors: Film to Premiere in 2017, 'Shared Universe' Plan Confirmed

According to Hasbro, fans may be able to expect a new Transformers movie within two years. Last month, it was disclosed that Paramount Pictures would be putting together a collaboration to come up with a Transformers universe, similar to the concept of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. The idea was being spearheaded by Akiva Goldsman, a screenwriter.

The plan was to come up with a story for Transformers 5, which includes several sequels and spin offs and today, CEO of Hasbro, Brian Goldner confirmed that a new Transformers movie is in the works, and even shared a target release date for the feature.

In a statement made yesterday during an earnings call, Goldner said: "Our plan with the studio and filmmakers you may have heard some writers being hired and we have in fact brought Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017."

It is not quite clear whether Goldner means that the movie's release is set to begin at that time, or whether he plans to start production then, but it is likely that this is when the studio hopes to have the movie be released.

Michael Bay is about to begin production on 13 Hours, a Benghazi movie.

It is possible however, that he will be free in time to return to the franchise and begin production in early 2016 for a 2017 Transformers 5 release.
