'Toy Story 4' Story Rumors: Fourth Franchise Film Geared Toward Romantic Comedy Genre?
New reports have confirmed that Disney and Pixar will make yet another Toy Story film. However, fans of characters Woody, Buzz and company are unsure as to whether they should even try and compete with the original films, saying that the ending of the third movie was a great way to send the toys off.
Now that production is coming up, the people of Pixar are opening up more on the situation, giving fans more information about the film's new plot.
Pixar president Jim Morris has told countless sources that the fourth installment to the Toy Story series will not be a continuation of the original trilogy. Instead, Pixar is creating a love story for the characters and will focus more on the toys themselves instead of their relationships with children.
The film will be directed by John Lasseter, who directed the first two Toy Story films. After seeing the 2012 romantic comedy Celeste and Jesse Forever, which was written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, Lasseter decided to hire the two to be writers for Toy Story 4.
Fans of the original trilogy claim that Pixar makes sequels only for cash grabs. Lasseter assured them that it wasn't. He said, "A lot of people in the industry view us doing sequels as being for the business of it, but for us it's pure passion. We only make sequels when we have a story that's as good as or better than the original."
The love interests in the film has yet to be announced or even determined. Fans speculate that Jesse and Buzz Lightyear could be the main focus since the two have had romantic interests in the past films, especially the third one. However every theory is pure speculation.
Toy Story 4 is set to release in theaters on June 16, 2017.
