'Toy Story 4' New Movie News, Rumors: Fourth Installment Steps Away from the Original Story

Fans initially protested the idea of a fourth Toy Story film when Disney and Pixar first announced they were starting to write the script for it. However, this week, Pixar President Jim Morris went to the press to put any rumors to rest.

Fans of the original trilogy are familiar with the characters in the third film as the toys are left with a little girl while their owner, Andy, heads off to college.

Morris said in an interview with Disney Latino, "It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. The third movie was over in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy."

Instead of being a continuation, Morris said that Toy Story 4 will be a standalone film, focusing on the toys themselves rather than the interaction between toys and humans. It will be more of a love story, a romantic comedy, Morris continued on to say.

Morris also said that the company did not plan on making a fourth film, but had a brilliant idea that couldn't be wasted. Many fans speculate that the film is just another cash crab, but Morris ensures fans that it isn't. They wanted to do a story with the characters that the Toy Story crew fell in love with.

The plot is uncertain but fans can expect Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to return to their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

According to IGN, the script is in its third phase. The original Toy Story writing team, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter and Lee Unkrich are working on the script as well as newcomers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. On that note, Pixar veteran Galyn Susman will produce.

As it stands, Toy Story 4 is set to release theaters on June 16, 2017.
