Tom Cruise Scientology News: Documentary Says 'Top Gun' Actor Bugged Ex-Wife Nicole Kidman's Phone?

The Sundance film festival was not all hunky dory for everyone. A documentary that was shown at the film festival on the religion of Scientology named 'Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief', revealed some nasty secrets along with it.

The documentary claims that the Church of Scientology persuaded Tom Cruise to hire private detectives to tap Nicole Kidman's phone. The Church was involved in the couple's marriage, according to the New York Daily.

The documentary revealed that Cruise was convinced to bug his then-wife's phone as he feared that she would disclose details about the Church to outsiders, since the marriage was falling apart at the time.

The documentary was made by Alex Gibney, who made it a point to show that Kidman was viewed by church higher-ups as a "Potential Trouble Source' with a connection to "Suppressive Persons' and an enemy to any Scientologist, reported The Daily.

According to the report by The Hollywood Reporter, the film showed that the Church of Scientology was not keen on Cruise's marriage to Kidman since her father was a psychologist, making him an enemy in the church's view. The Church Scientology, apparently, had also worked to turn the couple's son and daughter against Kidman.

It is said that the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, disliked and distrusted psychiatrists and psychologists. This general hatred and ideology is followed by the present members of the Church of Scientology, according to the documentary shown at the festival.

The organization essentially viewed Kidman as its enemy because during the course of their married life, Cruise distanced himself from the Church of Scientology.

It is not just Cruise's life that was exposed in the film. The film also showed how John Travolta allegedly turned his back on Scientology's history of abuse, even after a close friend fell victim to it, according to the New York Daily.
