'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 Release Date Rumors: Conflicting Reports On Premiere Confuse Fans?

While conflicting reports about "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 has been driving fans of the manga off the wall, they remain hopeful that the popular anime will be released later this year.

It was reported earlier that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be released this coming fall. However, recent reports say that the animated series will be released this winter.

Reports claiming that the series will premiere this winter were derived from the statement of Gen Fukunaga of Funimation, who said that the next installment of the series will come out this year. Since season 1 and 2 were released in the United States during winter, some presume that season 3 will also be released in winter of this year.

Aside from the release date of the series, another thing that baffles fans is the fate of Ken Kaneki, the protagonist in the series. There are speculations that in season 3, Kaneki will no longer be the protagonist but the antagonist.

"Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 came under fire due to its unfaithfulness to its original manga source. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction over the series by petitioning "Tokyo Ghoul" author Sui Ishida to have a reboot of the series from a different studio. Much to their dismay, the petition failed to gather enough signatures.

In other news, it has been confirmed that a live-action film of "Tokyo Ghoul" is in the offing. According to reports, the production of the said film will begin this July and will end in September. Expected to recount the beginning of "Tokyo Ghoul," the live-action film will be starred by "Death Note" star Masataka Kubota as Ken Kaneki.
