'Tokyo Ghoul' Season 3 Release Date: Fans Remain Positive Upcoming Season Will Happen This Fall?

It has been more than a year since "Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 aired, so fans of the anime series are all heated up to know when it's airing again. While there is no confirmation yet as to when "Tokyo Ghoul" is returning for its 3rd season, fans remain positive that a broadcast may happen later this year despite the dismal reviews received by the previous season.

According to reports, production of season 3 is currently underway but it may not come until fall. This is because no word has been given yet about the season 3 broadcast date despite the summer 2016 TV season being just around the corner.

It was reported last year that Funimation president Gen Fukunaga announced that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 was set for 2016. The announcement was made at a press release attended by GameSamba and Funimation, which teamed up in the development of the "Tokyo Ghoul" mobile game.

"Tokyo Ghoul" season 1 aired in 2014 as part of the winter 2014 anime lineup. The series introduced cannibalistic creatures to viewers, known as ghouls. It featured half-human, half-ghoul Kaneki Ken, who became a hybrid after going on a date with a ghoul.

Season 2 came in winter 2015 and was unfavorably received by viewers due to its poor adaptation of the original manga. Fans hated the season so much that they petitioned to convince author Sui Ishida to have the series rebooted with a different studio. Unfortunately, the petition failed as it was not able to meet its target of 500 signatures.

Since fall 2016 is still months away, fans are hoping that official announcements about season 3 will come out before long.
