Gospel Saxophonists Todd Ledbetter and Merlon Devine Showcase Their Gifts For Charity At "An Evening Of Sacred Saxophone" On Friday, October 19, 2012 At 7:00PM At Queens Chapel UMC In Beltsville, MD

Gospel Jazz is an up-and-coming genre in the sacred music world.  Merging the improvisational stylings of Jazz with the spiritual undertones of Gospel music, the genre is taking off.  Two leaders in this burgeoning genre are taking center stage for a worthy cause. Todd Ledbetter r is joining forces with Merlon Devine, another exceptional Gospel Jazz saxophonist, for An Evening of Sacred Saxophone.  The event will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 7:00PM at Queens Chapel United Methodist Church (7410 Old Muirkirk Road, Beltsville, MD 20705). Hosted by Jacquie Gales Webb of 96.3's WHUR, the evening will also feature the praise and worship ministry of Javon Inman.  Advanced tickets for the event are $20.  Tickets will be $25 at the door.

In addition to experiencing a phenomenal night of worship, attendees of An Evening of Sacred Saxophone will be supporting a worthwhile charity.  FISH of Laurel, Inc./Elizabeth House is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all-volunteer organization that assists residents in need in the greater Laurel area. It operates entirely with private and public donations of food, money and volunteer services.

Known as the "Jazz Psalmist," the gifted saxophonist knows how to execute spirited performances flawlessly through his instrument.  Ledbetter received his first Stellar Award Nomination for Instrumental Gospel CD of the Year for his latest effort, Meditations: Hymns In the Key of Jazz.  The talented instrumentalist also netted a 2011 Gospel Blue M.I.C. Achievement Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year and recently was nominated for a 2012 DMV Christian Music Award for .Best Gospel Jazz Artist and Male Artist of the Year.  With over 20 years of performing experience, Ledbetter has worked with the crème of the crop including jazz icons Grover Washington, Jr., James Moody, John Faddis, Eddie Harris, Ronnie Wells and Marcus Johnson and gospel notables Bishop Walter Hawkins, Richard Smallwood, Byron Cage and Bryan Wilson.

Merlon Devine is an excellent saxophonist in his own right.  Born into a musical family, Devine picked up the saxophone at the age of six.  Having been diagnosed with asthma as a youth, it would seem that playing any wind instrument would be impossible.  It wasn't until he fully surrendered his talent to God that he was completely healed.  Playing with amazing fervor, Merlon has shared his gifts on The Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN), DayStar and the WORD Network.  Known for his passionate and spirit-moving performances, Merlon's signature soprano saxophone sound can be heard on his four CD's-Due Season, Breathe, Unwrap the Gift and Set the Atmosphere: Volume 1.

In addition to the special treat the saxophone players will offer, the night also will feature the talents of up-and-coming praise and worship leader, Javon Inman.  Known for his song, "Redeemer", Inman is on the fast track to gospel music notoriety.  He's a recent Gospel Blue M.I.C. Award Winner and a nominee for the DMV Christian Music Awards.  A true worshipper, Inman will provide the lover of God with an unforgettable worship experience.
