TobyMac Releases Deeply Personal Song "Scars" From Upcoming Album
With only two weeks before the release of TobyMac's new album, The Elements, on Oct. 12, the singer-songwriter and hit producer has released the third song, "Scars," off the new album. Processing life as a believer, husband, father, and artist has fueled the cultivation of the artist's upcoming album, and he admits the latest single is deeply personal.
Sharing the heartfelt story behind "Scars," seven-time Grammy Award-winning TobyMac says it was born out of a new season in his life with his children growing up and trying their own wings out in the world.
"Man, this song 'Scars;' I mean, for the first time in my life I found myself sending ships out of the harbor," TobyMac reflects. "I mean, up till now, our family, our home, it's like been the harbor. The people I love the most are going out and facing the pain, the struggle, and the temptation of this crazy world."
"I'm very aware of the scars that come with life's journey, but sometimes we insulate those things from the ones we love, our children," he continues. "So to see them go out there and do this real world, it's painful man."
He concludes with an encouragement, "I wrote this one for my boy, I wanted to let him know that I'm here for him and that God is there for him. So lift your head my son to where your help comes from."
TobyMac was recently honored with an RIAA gold certification for his sixth gold solo record, the Grammy Award-winning album This Is Not A Test, presented to the artist in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. His upcoming album, The Elements, boasts TobyMac's biggest song in six years, "I just need U." along with current radio favorite "Everything," which is currently No. 3 at Hot AC, No. 9 at AC Indicator, No. 8 at Christian Airplay, and No. 12 at AC Monitored.
