'Tink' New Movie News: Reese Witherspoon to Star as Tinkerbell in Live Action Adaptation

Disney has recently released the title of their live action Tinkerbell film to be 'Tink,' and Reese Witherspoon has been attached to star as the studio's favorite fairy.

The character was first introduced to be Peter Pan's second in the J.M. Barrie's 'Pan' story, but in recent years the fairy has become a symbol for Disney.

Victoria Strouse has been revealed to pen the script. She has recently worked on the 'Finding Nemo' spin-off film, 'Finding Dory.' A director isn't yet attached to the project.

"Details on the project's angle are being kept deep in Pixie Hollow, but insiders say it will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative. It is also being developed in the vein of Maleficent, Disney's 2014 hit that starred Angelina Jolie as the evil witch from Sleeping Beauty. Like Maleficent, this Tinker Bell tale is conceived as 'the story you don't know', and will offer a new perspective on the character," writes THR.

The new take on the character hasn't yet been revealed, but classically Tinkerbell's character has been known to be temperamental and jealous.

"In the 1950s Peter Pan cartoon, she's mute and mildly jealous-but that's pretty much it for her iconography, which means there's plenty of opportunity to expand on the Tinker Bell mythology. Julia Roberts was in her mid-20s when she played Tinker Bell in Hook. Given that Witherspoon is a bit older, it's possible that the movie could focus on the notion of Tinker Bell as a "grown up"-whatever that means for fairies," writes EW.

As it stands, a release date has not yet been announced.
