Tiger Woods News: Legendary Golfer Facing Uphill Challenge Going into Masters
Tiger Woods has worked his way back to try and rediscover the form that made him a fixture in the later rounds of the Masters for the longest time. But in what would equate to the final act of his storied career, he faces an uphill task.
As Devil Ball Golf points out, it's been over a year since Woods finished in the top 10 of any tournament, withdrawing three times, and missing the cut in three more within that period. In the whole of 2015, he's played in just two rounds and a total of 11 holes of competitive golf. But coming back to compete in one of the most prestigious tournaments, the legendary golfer has certainly been working his tail off.
"Everyday the sun came up, and by the end of the day, I should be a better player. The goal was to get better incrementally," Woods was quoted saying. "People would never understand how much I put into it to come back. Whenever I had free time, I'd be playing. When the kids were asleep, I'd be doing it. When the kids were at school, I'd be doing it."
"I'd have moments where it would come, where I'd be dialed in for 10 minutes and then lose it for an hour. Then I'd have an hour of having it and 10 minutes of losing it. I got to the point where it was just there," Woods said of the top-notch ability he once had command of on a whim.
It'll be a long way back for Woods to even be competitive despite of all that work. He has not won a tournament since August of 2013, and as Devil Ball Golf notes, he's going on seven years without a major and 10 years since his last green jacket. The man who once dominated the sport is now ranked 104th in the world.
"The game has gotten bigger. Competing is still the same. I'm trying to beat everyone out there. That hasn't changed," Woods said of his thrust.
