Tidal Music Streaming News: Jay Z's Celebrity Re-Launch Event Showcases Megastars
The music industry's mainstream Billboard hard hitters like Alicia Keys, members of Arcade Fire, Beyonce, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Deadmau5, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Usher were all in New York to support Jay Z's relaunch of the music streaming software Tidal.
"Our mission goes beyond commerce, it goes beyond technology. Our intent is to preserve music's importance in our lives," spoke Alicia Keys during the event, "Music is the language of love, of laughter, of heartbreak, of mystery. It's the world's true, true, without question, universal language."
Shawn "Jay Z" Carter bought Tidal from a Stockholm company called Aspiro as well as another streaming service called wIMP earlier this year. He has plans to compete against the current streaming services like Pandora, Spotify and Apple's newest acquisition, Beats.
The rapper has promised that Tidal would offer CD-quality music streaming with a database of 25 million songs, 75,000 music videos and exclusive premiers from artists which includes the abovementioned guests in New York.
Surprisingly, Tidal has also included Taylor Swift on their roster after her controversial pull-out from Spotify catalog in the previous month. Swift's party had felt that artists were not valued as much in the streaming service. Tidal has placed all her albums in their database except the newly released '1989'.
It would seem that Tidal will be able to help with the artist's revenues, promising that it would give twice the pay-out that artists are receiving from competitors. As for users, the basic ad-free service will sell at $9.99 per month and a High Definition version will cost at $19.99 per month.
Prior to the re-launch press conference in New York, several celebrities had joined in on Twitter to market #TIDALforALL and changed their display pictures to a bright aqua square which is Tidal's brand color. Tidal is currently a new member of Jay Z's entertainment and sports company called Roc Nation.
