'Thor: Ragnarok' Movie News: Asgard's Set Done; Production Faces Labor Disputes?
One month since "Thor: Ragnarok" began its principal shooting in Australia, fans have yet to see any of their favorite actors in costume on the set. However, the great news is that construction works on the set of Asgard is basically done.
Over 100 employees who were expecting to have work until October or November this year were reportedly fired from the Marvel Studios production last week, according to Australia's Gold Coast Bulletin. One of the workers said that the reason for the sudden termination notices was that crew members of New Zealand descent were favored over locals.
"There's quite a lot of antagonism about how the New Zealand crew is being well looked after and seem to be in charge of a lot of main jobs."
Another worker complained that the notice was too short he didn't have time to organize work.
"I came back from Europe for this job and was told I'd have at least six months' work. I got a week's notice and haven't had time to organize work. I've got a mortgage and kids to feed. They've looked after their own and it's the locals who have all suffered," he said.
Defending the "Thor: Ragnarok" team, Australian Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk said, "What we have seen is that the stage for Thor has been completed and those jobs are finished. As the construction comes to an end, what we will see is more jobs when actors come in. I don't have any concerns. I'm very satisfied."
Marvel has refused to comment on the labor disputes. Despite the controversies, production on the upcoming film continues unabated.
"Thor: Ragnarok" is set to hit theaters in November 2017.
