Theatrical Release For Upcoming Film "Unbroken: Path To Redemption" Moved To Sept. 14; Telling Part 2 Of Louis Zamperini's Story
The upcoming faith-based film, "Unbroken: Path to Redemption," has moved its theatrical release date to Sept. 14, 2018. The new film follows the second half of Laura Hillenbrand's New York Times best-selling book, Unbroken, beginning where the 2014 hit film of the same name concludes, and tells the inspiring and powerful post-World War II story about the late Louis "Louie" Zamperini and his struggle to find peace and forgiveness following his ruthless treatment as a Japanese prisoner of war.
In the original film, viewers were fascinated by Zamperini's extraordinary story of endurance through a troubled childhood to the 1936 Olympics, followed by his enrollment in the Army where he was shot down in the Pacific, survived for weeks at sea and was then severely brutalized as a Japanese prisoner of war.
Still, many longed to hear the rest of the "Unbroken" story, where Zamperini the homebound war hero, broken by Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), found faith at a Billy Graham Crusade, and eventually forgave his World War II tormentors. This is the story told in "Unbroken: Path to Redemption."
The actor playing Billy Graham in the upcoming film is none other than Will Graham, grandson of the late evangelist. Taking a break from his work with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Graham gracefully stepped into the role of his grandfather during the famous L.A. Crusade, a pivotal period in Billy Graham's own trajectory and in Zamperini's life.
Hillenbrand's book, Unbroken, spent more than four years on the New York Times best-seller list in hardcover, and 15 weeks at No. 1. The paperback debuted at No. 1, staying for 20-plus weeks. The young reader edition also was a Times best-seller.
"Exploring the extraordinary post-war journey of Olympian and WWII POW Louis Zamperini, 'Unbroken: Path to Redemption' is a lyrical, profoundly moving film, a story told with integrity, honesty and compelling beauty," Hillenbrand says.
Samuel Hunt plays the lead role as Zamperini, while Merritt Patterson portrays his wife Cynthia. His older brother Pete is portrayed by Bobby Campo, along with additional actors Vanessa Bell Calloway as Lila Burkholder, David Sakurai as Watanabe ("The Bird"), Gary Cole as Dr. George Bailey, and Will Graham as his own grandfather Billy Graham.
