'The Winds Of Winter' Release Date Delay Rumors: George RR Martin Works On Sixth Book?
Following the announcement that HBO's "Game of Thrones" season 8 will be the last for the series, questions about the whereabouts of George RR Martin's "The Winds of Winter" have started to reemerge, with several fans wondering if the "Game of Thrones" series will be over before Martin's sixth and seventh novels see the light of the day.
The widely anticipated sixth novel in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series has been delayed for so long and followers of the novel have gone tired of waiting for its release.
Asked for updates on his writing process, Martin wrote on his blog post on August 1 that he's still working on "Winter." However, the book has been in the works since at least 2011 and what fans are yearning to know is how much progress the author has made since then. That same year, his fifth book titled "A Dance with Dragons" was released, after which nothing followed.
In January, Martin revealed that he had missed his proposed December 2015 deadline to turn in his manuscript.
Asked for updates on the book, Martin's publishing editor told Newsweek that she wasn't aware.
"I'm like Snow. I know nothing!" she said.
"All I do know is that George is working very hard. And as soon as we possibly can after he delivers, we'll publish the book."
Johnson went on to defend Martin, saying that Martin is working really hard for the book.
"It's worth saying he's written the best part of two million words of this series in the past 20 years. so given the average length of a novel is around 100,000 words, that's 20 novels in most writers' worlds," she said.
