'Winds of Winter' Release Date, Spoilers: George R.R. Martin's Plot Twist Gives Huge Headache To HBO?

HBO's "Game of Thrones" has caught up with the book. It turns out that it may actually be a bad thing; not for the original author of the novel, but apparently, for HBO.

George R.R. Martin might create a plot twist even the high caliber HBO creative and executive leaders didn't see coming.

According to iDigital Times, the author has a new plot twist that cannot be reproduced by the TV series since one of the major characters was killed off. After all, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Martin did say that a "great twist" will "drive readers crazy."

"It's easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters," Martin said. "They have to grow out of situations. Otherwise, it's just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, or four characters involved... it all makes sense. But it's nothing I've ever thought of before," he added.

Now, he confirmed through IGN that he will be going with that same plot twist that he had planned a few months back.

"...It is something that involves a couple of characters, one of which is dead on the show, and not dead in the books. So, the show can't do it, unfortunately, because they have killed someone I have not killed."

George R.R. Martin won't succumb to what's offered to him by the network in regards to the continuity of the story. In a recent blog post, he was asked if ever he wanted to let other people continue his story long after he's gone.

The 67-year old author didn't like that idea. Since HBO tried to do the story their own way, they might have to do it the rest of the way.
