‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Cast News: Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam Carey Confirmed
AMC's upcoming spinoff to zombie drama 'The Walking Dead' has found its male lead in actor Cliff Curtis.
The spinoff, tentatively entitled 'Cobalt', is set to be produced by 'The Walking Dead' execs, Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. It will be set in the same universe as its mother show, but in a different part of the country and Curtis has been cast as male lead, Sean Cabrera. Sean is a school teacher who is divorced and shares custody of his son Cody with his ex-wife Andrea Chapman.
A breakdown of characters to be featured in 'Cobalt' appeared on TV Line, describing Sean as a man "trying to do right by everyone in his life" and his son Cody as "whip-smart and rebellious." Andrea is a "wilted flower child" who is trying to recover from her failed marriage by escaping the city.
There has been no news yet on who will play the part of Curtis' ex-wife Andrea, or who will play his other leading lady Nancy Tompkins, a guidance counselor who works at the same school as Sean. Nancy is described by TV Line as a single mom of two children who has "an edge" to her.
The two teenagers who will play Nancy's children have already been cast though, in English actor Frank Dillane and Australian actress Alycia Debnam Carey.
Dillane is known for appearing in the 'Harry Potter' films as Tom Riddle a.k.a. the future Voldemort, and he is set to play Nick Tompkins. On that note, Carey will play his sister Ashley.
Carey may be familiar to those who watched 'Into the Storm' which stars Sarah Wane Callies, who portrayed Lori Grimes in the first few seasons of 'The Walking Dead'.
Dillane and Carey's characters have also been mentioned by TV Line. Nick is a "screwed up" teenager who was "too old to stay at home, too scared to flee," while Ashley is the more level-headed child whose "ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother's failures."
'Cobalt' has been given a pilot order by AMC and there is no news yet on a possible release date for the series.
However, it is likely to be picked up for a full series given the success of the original 'The Walking Dead'.
