'The Voice' Season 9 Finale Winner: Front-runner Impresses Once Again
Team Adam Levine's Jordan Smith gets the mic trophy during the finale of "The Voice" Season 9, beating Team Gwen Stefani's Jeffery Austin and Team Blake Shelton's Barret Baber. Team Blake's Emily Ann Roberts finished runner-up.
The Season 9 winner gave a tearful rendition of "Climb Every Mountain" which made his family members emotional. Even Pharrell Williams was stunned, reports ET.
Smith's win didn't come as a surprise given that he had been a front-runner since the blind auditions when he covered Sia's "Chandelier" and got all four chairs spinning.
The champion was also a crowd favorite and the highest-charting competitor on iTunes with his songs landing on the No. 1 and 3 spots.
Adam Levine's team also won in Season 5 with Tessanne Chin and Season 1 with Javier Colon.
Meanwhile, the finale also staged awesome performances from Coldplay, Ricky Skaggs, Missy Elliott and Pharrell, Usher, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly, Wynonna Judd, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber.
Moreover, this season was exceptionally lovely, not only for its killer group of contestants but also for the intriguing romance between Stefani and Shelton that blossomed while they were judging the show.
The two, who were never secretive of the romance, engaged in subtle PDAs such as biting and kissing during the show's run, reports Huffington post.
"I'm thankful for Gwen for tons of reasons," says Shelton, "but mostly just because she makes us all look a whole lot better on this show."
"The Voice" will return on NBC in February with Christina Aguilera as one of the judges.
