‘The Voice’ Season 8 Premiere Recap: New Singers Stun Mentors and Turn Chairs

It was an exciting season opener for the hit American singing competition 'The Voice' as it recently premiered its 8th season with the blind auditions that reports said to have set the bar high for this time around. Indeed, almost all contestants in the first episode of the show were phenomenal and many chairs turned.

In the first performance alone, the four chairs of the judges including last year's champion coach Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Pharell Williams and Christina Aguilera. It was Sarah Potenza who sang Rod Stewart's 'Stay With Me' that made all four judges turn their chairs towards the singer.

Before singing her piece, Potenza already made a strong impression on the judges saying, "I like the fact that this is a blind audition because I am just an ordinary person," she said then sang her song. It was indeed a powerful performance and she picked last year's champion coach Shelton as her mentor.

Afterwards, several others performed that had the other three judges get their own first member of their team. Lowell Oakley, the contestant next to Potenza sang "Dont Get Around Much Anymore" which definitely showcased his old-school jazz voice that impressed Williams. Well, apparently, Oakley is also confident in Williams picking him as his coach.

Another amazing contestant in the first ever premiere episode of The Voice Season 8 was Rob Taylor who sang "I Want You". It was a very soulful performance especially that he is auditioning for his mother who was paralyzed. Good thing that three chairs turned for him, Levine, Williams and Aguilera, whom Taylor chose.

A lot of contestants in the first episode made an impression to the judges that this season will be the best one yet. It was definitely proven when the last performer went on stage and blew away the judges. It was Sawyer Fredricks singing "Im A Man Of Constant Sorrow".
