'The Vampire Diaries' Series Cast News: Ian Somerhalder Talks About Nina Dobrev's Exit

After Nina Dobrev's departure from The Vampire Diaries, fans are anxious to know what exactly is going to happen to the show without its leading lady.

Dobrev played Elena Gilbert on the show, which was the female lead, and the love interest of Ian Somerhalder's on screen character Damon.

However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Somerhalder dished up about what was in store for his character, Damon on the seventh season of the show which will premiere this fall.

The sixth season wrapped up on May 14th. The 36-year-old actor said that he is excited to get back to the version of Damon that fans fell in love with in seasons one and two.

"That's what I'm very excited about," Somerhalder said. "Season 1 and 2 of the show is where people fell in love with this guy; it's where I fell in love with this guy."

He also discusses how Damon will get on without Elena, who was the love of his life. He said that Elena gave him a message that would help him to continue his journey.

In the interview, Somerhalder says, "Elena told him some things that allow him to move on. He's a 170 year old man with an endless amount of wisdom."

He also talks about the future of the sow as a whole, stating "The last two shots of this show truly depict where this show is going to be and we see characters moving into spaces and places we never thought they'd be."
