Ten days before the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, fans of the series are already dying to see the grand reunion of the famous vampires of Mystic Falls.

Season 8 will see the return of Nina Dobrev as her character finally wakes up from her deep sleep.  The actress left the series in season 6, but the new season will see her return either as Katherine Pierce or Elena Gilbert.

While it has not been confirmed yet as to which of the two characters she will play, reports about who Elena will end up with are already swirling around. It can be recalled that in season 6, Elena was madly in love with Damon. However, she also developed a strong and intimate bond with Stefan before she became a vampire.

In his recent interview with TV Line, actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore, revealed that Damon and Elena might not get a happy ending by the end of the season. According to him, certain factors might keep them from ending up together. Moreover, he said that the new season will offer a different twist in their love story.

Aside from the return of Nina Dobrev, another interesting thing to watch out for in season 8 is the evil that is coming to Mystic Falls. The extended teaser for the series highlights Enzo and Damon trying to deal with the creature after it took them. The teaser also reveals that the new season will see Damon in a bad state.
