'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 Cast News: Tristin Mays Will Return As Sarah Salvatore

It has been two weeks since the announcement that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will be the series' last and casting updates continue to come to the surface.

Just recently, TV Line has confirmed that Tristin Mays is returning as Sarah Salvatore to join the cast of the upcoming season.

Since the news came out, fans have been wondering what business Sarah has in Mystic Falls. She was last seen towards the end of season 6, when Enzo advised her to leave the town.

There are speculations that Sarah, possibly the only living descendant of Damon, is the only key to pulling him back from the darkness. Some also speculate that she will spend her screen time with Matt Donovan, who, as revealed by Zach Roerig at the San Diego Comic-Con 2016, will explore his humanity in season 8.

In other news, one of the characters in the series is reportedly not going to make it to the end. Kat Graham has teased the death of this character and also revealed that the event will happen midway through the season.

With rumors that Nina Dobrev is returning next season, there are speculations that Graham's Bonnie is the one to die in season 8. According to some, her death has to happen so Dobrev's Elena Gilbert may return to the show, considering the spell that Kai had cast before his own death.

Meanwhile, season 8 is set to introduce a new female villain. Plec describes the villain as creepy and crawly, which could be an alien creature that has the ability to control people.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres on Oct. 21, 8:00 P.M. on The CW.
