Stefan (Paul Wesley) will have to work to win Caroline's (Candice King) heart in season 7 of The Vampire Diaries. Although Caroline knows they share the same feelings, she isn't ready to commit after her mother's death and the killing spree that it triggered in her.

Stefan must prove to her that they could have something good and healthy, and all he brings to the table is himself. "He's going to be sort of the same loving guy he's been for the past six seasons," Wesley shared with TV Line.

"He'll be the supportive friend and a shoulder for Caroline to lean on until she is ready for a relationship."

Eventually, the tables will seem to have turned when Caroline starts questioning why they haven't stepped it up to a romantic relationship.

"Caroline wants to be with Stefan, but she's also trying to do the right thing by herself, taking the time to mourn her mother's death so she can enter into this relationship with a clean state and a free mind," according to Wesley.

"The heart wants what it wants when it wants it, so we'll see moments where's she's struggling, wanting to say something but not knowing what to say."

It had been previously hinted at that the relationship between the two vampires would never be smooth sailing.

"Fans of the couple shouldn't expect this perfect romance, but what the characters feel for each other is very perfect," King shared with TV Guide. "So, if the situations aren't perfect, the intentions are still really good, so that's what they're fighting for through the chaos and the demise of Mystic Falls."

One thing that might push the relationship forward faster is if the writers decide to write in King's real life pregnancy.

Although there have been no announcements as yet of the patter of little vampire feet, King told E! Online that she feels Stefan and Caroline would be good parents.

"They'd be very quick parents," King quipped. "I think with vamp speed, that would definitely help with diaper changes. I don't know if they'd compel a baby not to cry? I don't know if that's cool for vampire parents to do."
