'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 will be very different from the previous seasons of this supernatural television drama series on The CW, since Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) will not be in action, as Kai (Chris Wood) cast a sleeping spell on her in the series Season 6 finale.

According to IB Times, this means that Elena will not come to life as long as Bonnie is alive, because her life has been connected to the life of her best friend. It also denotes that Elena will not be around to stop Damon (Ian Somerhalder) from his reckless actions. However, Melty reports that Somerhalder recently said that fans of Nina Dobrev will get to see her again in 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 too!

Referring to Elena's final scene, Somerhalder remarked that it was a brilliant idea to introduce the sleeping spell part, since it allows the viewers to know Elena is still alive.

Somerhalder said, "The way it was done was great. The way it was done was actually incredible, because it allows people to know that she's still there... she's not dead. In seventy years or however long Bonnie lives, Elena will resurface at some point, although we'll be very old when that happens."

Talking about 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7, Somerhalder said the show was returning to what it was in its initial two seasons, and an indication of this was given to the fans in the final moments of Season 6 finale.

The lead actor explained, "We're actually very excited about telling this story. Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert is going to be very different. We want to go back to that Season 1 and Season 2 of storytelling... I think that the last scene in the last episode that you see is truly a depiction of what this next season's going to be."

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 villains will include the heretics, Lily Salvatore's friends who were released from the prison world in the Season 6 finale. It is also expected that Mama Salvatore will come in between Damon and his best friend Enzo in the upcoming season.

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 will premiere on The CW in October.
