'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 News: How Will the Show Continue without Nina Dobrev?
While Nina Dobrev, one of the main attractions of 'The Vampire Diaries,' has left the hit supernatural-fantasy horror television series, the show creators are now working on the script of Season 7 of The CW show, which is scheduled to premiere this fall. Meanwhile show co-creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have assured the fans that the absence of Dobrev, whose character was written off in Season 6 finale, will not affect the show in any way.
IB Times reports that both Plec and Williamson were available at the 2015 ATX Television Festival. Attending a panel called "A Conversation with Julie and Kevin," the duo talked about everything ranging from "Scream to "Dawson's Creek," but the attendees were more interested in knowing about the details of 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7.
Addressing the audience, Plec said, "Here's the deal. There are a lot of things going into it," adding, "One of the things we set out to do was tell a love story between two brothers and build up an ensemble around everybody."
According to Plec, their main goal was to create an interest in other characters as well as other relationships. In fact, the show tried this with Caroline (Candica Accola), Alaric (Matt Davis), and Bonnie (Kat Graham). Hence, when fans learned that Nina Dobrev would be leaving the series, they naturally asked, "What would the show be like without Elena?"
"No offense to Nina, because she was extraordinary, but as writers you're like, 'I am so god---n sick of trying to manage this love triangle," Plec joked, adding, "I just want to, like, throw up."
At the same time, Williamson clarified that they were compelled to think about "what else" the show is about - such as "embracing family, finding family and reconnecting with family."
According to Williamson, "This season the triangle of Elena may be off in the ether." He added, "But guess what; there is a lot of story to tell. A lot of great, emotional, tear jerking, epic, scary and thrilling story to tell ... I think."
However, this does not mean that the writers would not have had any interesting stories to tell even if Dobrev had decided remain a part of 'The Vampire Diaries.' According to Julie Plec, when Dobrev announced her decision to depart, the series writers were already "talking creatively about what Season 7 would be."
The show co-creator said, "As writers we were like, 'oh, look what door this opens up,'" adding, "Look what opportunity this opens up to build this character, or to really give juice to this friendship."
