"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 16, titled "Days of Future Past," is set to fulfill the series of events foreshadowed by the previous episodes.

The preceding installments of the drama series hinted that something would befall the characters as they make every effort to stop Rayna. With the recent teaser released, it seems that the story makes a significant turn as Rayna ultimately stumbles on Stefan, whom the vampire huntress has been hunting down for long.

It can be noted that Rayna has already slaughtered a good number of innocent people in Mystic Falls in her bid to track Stefan down. The recent promo has it that her time has finally arrived.

In the teaser for the next episode, Rayna is seen luring Stefan into abandoning his brother as that is the only way for him to be free.

When Rayna tells Stefan, "The only way for you to be free is to let Damon go," Stefan answers "Yes," but qualms can be seen in his eyes.

Previous installments of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 showed how Stefan was always there to rally round his brother Damon, often to wriggle him out of trouble. With the recent teaser, it seems that Stefan finally settles on giving precedence to himself this time.  

However, the video teases that the older Salvatore comes to the rescue just when Damon needs his brother most.

In "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 16, Damon pays his brother Stefan back as he saves him from Rayna through the help of Valerie.

The next episode features Damon being a hero for his brother the way Stefan has always been to him. Towards the end of the teaser, it seems that it is only the younger Salvatore who can push Damon to be the best version of himself.

After a long hiatus, "Days of Future Past" will air on April Fools' Day.
