A lot of fans of The Vampire Diaries are still not over Nina Dobrev's decision to leave the show.

Her final episode playing her character on the show, Elena Gilbert, aired on May 14^th, and she shared pictures of her final scenes with her co-star and on screen love interest, Ian Somerhalder.

The star shared many pictures of her last days of filming the show on her Instagram page, but one in particular had fans ready to tear up.

The photo featured Somerhalder and Dobrev after their final scene together as Elena and Damon.

The pair had cake all over their faces, and Nina captioned the photo, "But I didn't go out without putting up a fight.... If I was gonna go down, I wasn't going to go down alone. @iansomerhalder."

The series of photographs also includes the executive producer of the show, Julie Plec, who wrote the season finale.

Dobrev's character in the show, Elena did not die, in order for her to make her exit. In the finale, it was revealed to viewers that Elena and Bonnie were linked together by Kai.

This means that Elena will be asleep until Bonnie dies. Everyone had their turn to say their goodbyes to Elena before Damon and Stefan locked her body away in a safe place.

Damon got the final goodbye of course. It is safe to say that even with everything that has happened between the two, both on and off screen, Dobrev and Somerhalder still have a lot of love for each other.

The pair has worked together for six years in creating a wonderful love story on screen.
