A lot of fans of The Vampire Diaries are wondering what direction the show will be taking from the beginning of next season, especially after the exit of star Nina Dobrev.

One of Dobrev's costars, Paul Wesley is wondering the same. Wesley, 32, discussed his opinions on the lead character's removal from the storyline in an interview with People at The Human Society of the United State's Los Angeles Gala.

"Obviously there's great nostalgia", said Wesley. "I have no idea what they're going to do next year, literally. Apparently they have a plan. I don't know what the plan is. It's going to be really interesting. It will be interesting to see what they come up with the brothers."

Clearly, Wesley is just as in the dark as fans of the show at the moment, but he is open to whatever direction the showrunners decide on.

Still, Wesley says that Dobrev is happy to be moving on from the show. He says that he respects her decision to move on from the show and seek to begin a new chapter in her life.

In response to some who are wondering whether Dobrev will be the first of many departures to come, he says that everything does have to end.

He also says that his time playing his character has an expiration date of sorts, as he is 32 years old, and the character that he is playing is only 17 years of age.

Hopefully fans will have a couple more years before they have to say goodbye to anymore characters on the series.
