'The Strain' Spoilers, News: Show Renewed For Third Season

Fans of FX's vampire series, 'The Strain' will be happy to know that the series has recently been renewed for a third season.

The Guillermo Del Toro directed series has enjoyed a lot of success in its first season, and despite ratings dropping a bit in its second effort, the network still deems it popular enough to continue.

The series is also written by Carlton Cuse and produced by Gary Ungar, J. Miles Dale, Bradley Thompson, David Weddle and Regina Corrado.

FX executive Eric Schrier said this in a statement:

"Guillermo and Carlton [Cuse] have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process."

The show is based off of the best-selling 'The Strain Trilogy' by del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

"In the current second season, New York City is rapidly falling to an evil epidemic, and no one is coming to its rescue. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his unlikely allies tried to take down the embodiment of this evil - the Master - and failed. Now Eph and Dr. Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro) concentrate on creating a biological weapon to wipe out the creatures, while Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) searches for an ancient book he hopes will reveal the strigoi's entire history...and possibly a way to kill them," writes Deadline.

'The Strain' season three plans to air next summer on the FX.
