‘The Rosie Project’ News: Richard Linklater Likely to Direct Jennifer Lawrence’s Upcoming Movie

If everything goes well, 'Boyhood' director Richard Linklater will possibly be directing Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming movie 'The Rosie Project.' According to recent reports, the upcoming movie is based on a book by Australian author Graeme Simsion by the same name and Lawrence will be portraying the bubbling lead character named Rosie.

According to IB Times, the plot of the movie revolves around a genetics professor without a social life and who fails to get along with any woman. He prepares a questionnaire where he asks people to solve various queries on what they should look in for a perfect wife. However, the professor's theory fails when he meets Rosie (Lawrence), who does not have any of the attributes he is looking for in a wife. Nevertheless, the professor fails to comprehend why he still gets attracted to Rosie. On the other hand, the professor also meets a woman possessing all of his criteria at one point, but does not feel attracted to her.

The book "The Project Rosie" has been a bestseller in several countries when it was released in 2013. Deadline reports that Sony Pictures acquired the rights and assigned Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber the job to write the script. Both Weber and Neustadter are reputed for penning the script for 'The Spectacular Now' and 'The Fault In Our Stars.'

According to Entertainment Weekly, initially, Sony hired Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to be at the helm of 'The Rosie Project,' but they left to work on the 'Star Wars.' Though Linklater is yet to be signed on officially, Deadline has dubbed him as "the front-runner" for the project. Apart from 'Boyhood,' Linklater's earlier works include 'Before Sunrise' and 'Before Sunset.'

'The Rosie Project' will be produced by Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan.

Meanwhile, Linklater has just completed the filming of the baseball-based romantic comedy, 'That's What I'm Talking About.' Paramount is scheduled to release the movie on April 15, 2016. On the other hand, Lawrence will be seen in 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2,' which is slated for Nov. 20 release.
