‘The Revenant’ Movie Update, News: Leonardo DiCaprio Film Releases Thrilling Trailer [VIDEO]

'The Revenant' has just released its first trailer and people who have watched it describe it as "spectacular." The upcoming movie is a joint venture between Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio and director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, who won the Academy Award for 'Birdman.' 'The Revenant' is a survival thriller based on the mythical frontiersman Hugh Glass.

Quoting Entertainment Weekly, Latin Post reports that DiCaprio portrays the character of Glass, who was once attacked by a bear in the backwoods and his fellow hunters on the escapade abandoned him or left him for dead. In such a situation, Glass confronts extreme odds to get away from hazardous elements as well as hostile natives.

As survival is the main focus of this movie, the trailer shows Glass coming across tormenting dangers at all turns. It also depicts the extremes Glass needs go to only to survive. During the course of his escape from the horrifying hazards, Glass is compelled to undertake a 200-mile trek, a journey that supposedly takes him back to civilization and recovery.

In fact, the fight to put over the treacherous land, which is set in the 1820's, exemplifies Glass' will to survive and reach to safety. Although he has guns and ammunition at his disposal, they are not sufficient enough to outdo the hoards of Native Americans or the wildlife.

'The Revenant' was filmed on location in the Canadian wilds that very closely represents the elements Iñárritu wanted to portray in the film. In addition, the director only used natural light for the film and appointed his Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki to achieve that goal.

According to reports, the traumatic nightmare of filming alone was no easy task too. The film was shot in Calgary and the elements were somewhat a task to cope with. Making things worse, the crew also ran out of snow toward the end of the production.

As of now, it is expected that the film will be released on Christmas day and to reach this deadline the cast and crew need to wrap up production in Argentina for the remaining part of the film.
