'The Revenant' Movie Review: Worthy For Leonardo DiCaprio's First Oscar?

Leonardo DiCaprio teamed up with visionary director Alejandro G. Iñárritu in the movie, "The Revenant" and the movie was reported to be a very good movie and Leonardo DiCaprio could probably win his very first Oscar for his role.

Hugh Glass who works as a trapper and guide with the Rocky Mountain Fur Co. on the Upper Missouri was mauled to death by a grizzly bear. Expecting him to die because of the damages done to him, his group left him behind. Two people who were appointed to bury his body, stole his kit, his gun and left his body instead. Miraculously, Glass survived and crawled 320 kilometers on a broken leg across South Dakota to seek for revenge.

Cinematographer Emmanuel "Chivo" Lubezki, who has won the last two Oscars in his field for "Gravity" and "Birdman," in this movie, made the weather its own character according to IB Times. The battle between the fur trappers and the Arikara Indians in the first part of the movie is considered as one of the most intense battle scenes on film since "Saving Private Ryan." The usage of CGI was very efficient in the bear attack scene. The mixture of close ups and sound editing of the bear's gasps for breath made the animal a real character who's in a life or death fight with Glass. Lubezki's ever-moving camera emphasized the struggle of Glass as he tries to survive.

Some would say that the story is too shallow but it might be DiCaprio's ticket to his first Oscar. It is a very good movie and it deserves a lot of praise.
