‘The New Mutants’ Spinoff News: Josh Boone Tapped to Direct New 'X-Men' Franchise Series
Fox has completed negotiations with director Josh Boone, who has previously directed The Fault in Our Stars, to co-write and direct The New Mutants.
The series will be a standalone spinoff, which expands the X-Men movie universe. The show is part of the X-Men Comics universe, and introduces viewers to a new group of mutants, born with special powers.
Boone will be co-writing the series with Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will be producing the show.
It is not a surprise that Fox would want Boone to expand his talent. He had his breakthrough as a director with The Fault in Our Stars, which was based on the John Green novel of the same name.
The book had a large fan base of young adults, and Boone did not disappoint them. He was able to adapt all of the emotions in the book for the big screen, and made stars out of Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolff.
The film grossed 307 million dollars across the globe, and since then, Boone has been linked to several projects. These include adaptations of two Stephen King novels, The Stand and Lisey's Story.
He has also been mentioned as one of the possible directors for the new Spider-Man franchise.
The next project on his list is with Universal, a reboot of Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, which is based on the Anne Rice novels.
It will be called The Vampire Chronicles. The Stand, will be next on his to do list, which means that work on The New Mutants will not begin for another few years or so.
