'The Mindy Project' News: Fox Show Cancelled but May Premiere via Hulu
Mindy Kaling's series 'The Mindy Project' will unfortunately be getting booted from Fox's lineup after a third season of lackluster ratings.
While this may come off as solemn news to the fans, it has recently been speculated that the show could possibly save itself by moving to Hulu. A number of television shows air on Hulu, and it has recently become a trend to use online streaming services to save shows that have lost their spot on network television.
"But the good news for fans of the show is that online streaming giant Hulu has expressed a serious interest in the show and may be willing to pick up two more seasons of Mindy. (The seasons would most likely be 12 or 13 episodes, as is standard on cable and streaming.) No deals are in place, in part because Mindy producer Universal Television can't begin any negotiations with other suitors until Fox officially cancels the show - and our sources say the network hasn't made that call to Universal yet," writes Vulture.
Hulu has since declined any comment in being interested in 'The Mindy Project.' So far this is all speculation, but it isn't a farfetched idea as Hulu has recently signed on to be the online home of 'The Walking Dead' spin-off series, along with 'Seinfield' reruns and 'Empire.'
"Maybe some people thought, 'You should wrap it up just in case,'" Kaling said of the season finale. "But I'm not that type of person who can operate under the assumption of failure. If it's going to lead to more stories or it doesn't, I'll sort of face that when the time comes. I want to see them again. And I don't want to write from the point of view of it ending if I don't believe this is the end."
